Bonus Conversations: Stephan Pues and Tim Coomar

At the time we recorded today’s conversation, City to City Europe was in the middle of a leadership transition. One of our guests, Stephan Pues, was the former director of City to City Europe. Our other guest, Tim Coomar, was the interim director. I enjoyed hearing the story of their region from both of their perspectives. There’s great insight here about how the work has matured as leadership moves from one generation to the next, about what’s gone well and what lessons the network still needs to learn.

More from our guests

You can learn more about City to City Europe through their website and Substack, where they share stories, resources, and reflections on gospel renewal, church planting, and city movements across Europe.

To hear more from Stephan, listen to Season 2, Episode 8 of How to Reach the West Again, where he joins the conversation about the challenges and opportunities facing the church in the modern West.

And if you’d like to explore more of what Stephan is describing when he talks about a theological framework for cities and “urban theology,” see The City to City DNA, Section 9: City Theology. The conversation’s emphasis on hub cities, collaboration, and gospel renewal movements is also explored in Section 19: Movements, which looks at how gospel work takes shape through networks of churches and leaders across cities.

You can also watch Why Should Europeans Share the Gospel?”, a 2021 livestream conversation with Tim Keller and European church leaders reflecting on gospel witness in increasingly secular European cities.

Finally, many of the ideas discussed in this episode—including city movements, church multiplication, and collaborative leadership—were explored at the most recent City to City Europe Conference in Budapest in November 2025. You can watch conference talks and sessions from the event here.
